Polar is a certified
VPN and Security Specialist, with a thorough understanding
of how to design and build networks with inherent security
capability.
Our consultants hold security accreditations
from Cisco, Microsoft and Checkpoint, as well as the
world renowned Certified Information
Systems Security Professional (CISSP), the vendor independent
security certification covering all ten domains of information
systems security.
Deploying an effective IT security infrastructure is
a continuous task. It is important to ensure that security
policy is properly implemented to detect an incident
and respond with the correct, measured methodology.
Managing security consists of a constant threat, vulnerability
and risk analysis being applied to the security infrastructure.
Polar Computer Communications is able to offer the
complete range of security services from initial audit
and vulnerability assessment through to deploying and
managing security infrastructure such as:
- IDS
- Firewalls
- VPN Devices
- Authentication
- Penetration testing
Key business benefits include:
- Compliance with statutory and industry related regulations
- Enhanced client confidence through an effective security
regime
- Protection from embarrassing exposure or loss of data
- Skilled professionals monitoring your security status
24x7
- Ability to effectively prosecute individuals through
an effective security policy
- Reducing the number of vulnerabilities reduces the
chance of someone attempting to access your sensitive
data.
VPN Virtual Private Networking
Using a low cost shared public resource such as the
Internet to carry private data using VPN is becoming
a popular concept.
It may appear to be a simple financial decision, however
the proposed solution frequently does not match the
requirements of the network. Polar has helped several
clients migrate to a more appropriate technology when
the deficiencies of VPN have become apparent following
installation in an inappropriate environment.
In some cases, VPN implementations can actually work
out more expensive than a private network, due to the
need for a firewall as well as a router.
It is a popular myth that VPN over ADSL is an effective
solution universally. The very nature of ADSL means
that the high speed flow of data is in one direction
(from the Internet), therefore provisioning ADSL at
a central or hub location restricts the upstream traffic
to a trickle, compared to the high speeds quoted in
the downstream direction.
Often it is not possible to obtain more than 128Kb/s
(the same as ISDN) in the upstream direction.
It is also not well publicised that the use of a PC,
with a VPN client installed to connect to your network,
increases the vulnerability of your network unless strong
authentication techniques are employed.
As a certified VPN and Security specialist Polar can
help deploy a secure, effective VPN solution where the
technology is appropriate and meets the network requirements.
